Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince rips into Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba
Paul Ince has ripped into Romelu Lukaku and Paul Pogba, insisting they are “just not good enough” to play for Manchester United.The former midfielder, who spent six years at United in the 90s, praised under-fire manager Jose Mourinho’s decision to drop the pair against Arsenal on Wednesday evening.3

Lukaku, a 75m signing in 2017, has scored just once in 14 games, while Pogba, signed for 89m in 2016, has been a shadow of the player who helped France win the World Cup in the summer.Ince told Paddy Power: “The big decision for Jose Mourinho now is whether he keeps the same side for the Fulham game.“He keeps chopping and changing it, and I can see why. He did the right thing in dropping Pogba and Lukaku, they dont seem remotely interested, and theyre just not good enough.“Lukaku isnt scoring goals at the moment – and when he isnt scoring goals, what is he good for? Nothing. He brings nothing to the table.“If your main role is a striker, and youre not scoring goals for fun, then whats the point of you being on the pitch?“If you arent scoring goals as a striker you should be dropped. I know his confidence is low but Mourinho needs to think about the team.”3

Ince joined United from West Ham in 1989, winning two Premier League titles as the club dominated the domestic scene in England and their current position in the league is something he can’t get his head around.He said: “Theyre in eighth place, which is disgraceful. So, its all about getting points on the table, and if that means dropping Lukaku then thats what he should do, simple.“When it comes to Pogba, its just another drama, another chapter in the life of him. He was atrocious against Southampton and didnt deserve to be picked for a game like Arsenal.“Its all well and good him moaning off the pitch, but the fact is, hes doing nothing to deserve a place in the side.”Pogba reportedly told Mourinho his tactics are restricting United following their 2-2 draw with relegation-threatened Southampton last weekend.That is believed to have been said in reply toMourinho allegedly calling Pogba “a virus”.3

The Frenchman has been linked with a return to Juventus, and Ince, who spent time at Inter as well as United’s rivals Liverpool, believes the Red Devils are better off without him.He added: “Pogbas supposed to be world class, but he looks bang average. If he thinks his place is to come on the pitch and do stupid little flicks and tricks which lead to them losing the ball hes an idiot.“You can blame Jose Mourinho for some things, but you cant blame him for everything. Pogba doesnt help him, and hes right to be dropped. “You can see the mood of the fans changing, and their attitude and tolerance towards Pogba too. Its rare that United fans would boo a player, but theyre getting sick of his behaviour.“There arent many United fans that would be sad to see him go.“The attitude of the fans to me seems to be that if hes that desperate to leave Old Trafford he should just go. In fact, that would be the best outcome for everyone involved.”
