Despite his contribution in goals, trophies, and more than half a decade of service, Bale has never really managed to become universally loved by Madrid fans (and in recent years at least, the media). In the future, when the details become blurred and the trophy haul is all that matters, it will surely be considered a success.4

There have been murmurs of an exit before of course, but this time feels different. More definitive. By now, parting ways feels like the best outcome for all parties.
