Monchi: Sevilla confirm famed talent spotter has returned as sporting director despite Arsenal interest
Famed talent-spotter Monchi has returned to Sevilla as sporting director, despite strong rumours linking him with a role at Arsenal. The Spaniard recently left his position as director of football at Roma and he was reportedly offered the Emirates hot-seat to replace Sven Mislintat – who left the Gunners after just 14 months. However, the dismissal of Sevilla boss Pablo Machin means previous director of football, Joaquin Caparros, has taken charge of the first team. And following talks with the club’s president, Jose Castro, Monchi accepted a return to his former position.Monchi, 50, made his name as one of the best talent-spotters in the game at Sevilla during his 17-year stint with the club.He oversaw a remarkable turnaround for the club, playing an instrumental role in their promotion to Spains top flight and helping them win five Europa League titles with his astute eye for talent.Monchi has returned to Sevilla1
